Brothers,
Another Busch Brothers Annual Meeting has come and gone. It was a blast! As vice president and secretary of our group I offer the following minutes for your approval/correction/addition.
For weeks prior Rich was preparing for the BBAM including help from Steve, Paul, Mike and James on Friday. For some the party began on Wednesday at a small race around Indy. There was a 5K and a one-mile race. Jon ran both and got 2nd place in the 5k and 1st in the one mile race. Steve ran just the one mile race and fared alright considering he has not run a race since the previous year. The pre-party continued on Thursday night as Steve and Jon ran a 5k in Tipp City, OH. Jon got 2nd place and Steve finished about the middle of the pack.
After the race Steve and Jon headed to our old stomping grounds and ate dinner at the Gold Star on Tylersville Rd. To round out the evening Steve stopped by Tony’s house and had several cold ones as we got caught up on things since the last BBAM. Moving onto Friday……Rich took his boat out for a cruise on the Mighty Ohio. Steve, Paul, and Mike assisted in the launch and the water was as smooth as could be and we did not see another boat the entire time till we brought it in around 8:00. The river is awesome and hopefully next year Paul will have a boat that will allow more brothers to join us. After we got back to the house we played some euchre and did some last minute preparations and due to the lack of Masonite wood we reused an existing can wall that was used two years prior. It shall also be noted that on Friday night Jon and Tony ran a 5k race in Mainville.
Saturday morning, in lieu of a race, we slept in a little later than usual and then did some last minute preparations for the meeting. As we were doing our preparations, it shall be noted that Jon ran a 5k race in Kettering and one in Centerville. Later Saturday morning/day other Brothers arrived: Craig, Paul Hutch, Bob in that order all b4 noon. Jon arrived at 12:30 and Tony arrived at 5:10.
The 22nd BBAM began at 12:00 - noon June 8th, 2013 in beautiful Manchester, OH at the Rich Lask palatial estate. There were 10 Brothers in attendance (three less than last year). It was great to see Craig and Paul Hutchens again after a 2 year absence for each. We are all hopeful all can continue to make an appearance next year and many years into the future. The first beers and opening ceremonies begun at noon with Rich, Steve, Paul, Mike, James, Craig, Paul H, and Bob present. With about 70 degrees early in the day and it crept up to about a high of 80 degrees. It was a little warm, but not too bad so some of us stayed inside during the day and others enjoyed the outdoors. I would say the weather was near perfect and could not have been much better.
Shortly after the meeting officially started everyone received official 22nd BBAM souvenirs which included nicely designed 2013 BBAM deck of playing cards, an optional Busch Bavarian sticker, and a can cap for easy-no spill drinking. It was suggested to each member to take the items to their vehicles right away to preserve them for the future. (A thank you goes out to Jon’s wife Laurie for designing the 2013 BBAM Cards & banner) As souvenirs were being handed out there was an offering taken for all you can drink and other house expenses for Rich. Once paid, everyone was given a Pick Your Pony card to fill out and given a custom index card designed by Paul to mark their row on the wall according to the seeding. Please thank the folks at Heidelberg and continue to drink as many AB products as possible in your homes and whenever you are out. Steve earns the AB prize for the long weekend with the equivalent of at least a 12 pack of AB products drank over each of the 4 day party. (A thank you goes out to Paul for providing setup work/materials, the new and old tractors, some of the food and most of the fireworks) (A thank you goes out to Rich for providing the venue and all the preparation)
At around 1:00 we started our 6th ever official Euchre Tournament. Busch Mountain rules were in place which involved one round with each player with four deals each. The top 4 players advanced to the final four. We had an 8 man rotation with Jon in charge. Jon had the most points with 31 to win the Euchre Tourney for the year and the Trophy, beating out Craig with 28 points, and Mike and Rich tied with 25 each. With the weather being so nice and getting a late start, it was determined by Jon and consulted by others that the final round be eliminated and the money be distributed to those final four players without the playoff. See report from Paul below for complete results.
Once Tony was settled in around 5:30 PM we began our full members meeting. As President, Mike called the meeting to order and immediately initiated a social drink and then turned things over to the VP and Secretary, Steve. We reviewed the notes from the previous year and reviewed some of the records of the day on the new BBAM yearly record sheet. With many brothers well into their pace for the case club it was decided to keep it brief and move on to the ceremony for a our newest associate member Paul Hutchens, nomination speech by Paul M. 2nd speech by Mike. Conversation went quickly around the room with positive comments all around since he was already an honorary member it was an easy decision. Paul H was brought back in to speak on his behalf and he was briefly led out for the final vote to be made which was a quick 100% positive vote and then the acceptance ceremony was quickly planned and then he was brought back in and given a glass to share some beer with each member as we each shared a little beer, history, knowledge and wisdom about the Busch brothers. Tony was nominated as his mentor and was last to speak. Over the next year it is up to Tony and the other members to stay in touch with Paul H as he trains for full membership next year.
My notes from the meeting got really sloppy towards the end of the full members meeting, but
James said something about don’t drink lite beer………………..
There was discussion about moving the bbam2014 to the end of the month of June such as the 21st or 28, Please pencil in those two days and we will decide later.
We had a small unveiling of a big plastic sign which was given to James from Steve in appreciation of James amazing production with the food on and off the grill. The sign has the picture of a grill on top loaded with food on it with the words grill it hot, and Busch beers with ice on the bottom with the words keep it cold. James displayed the sign the rest of the evening and intends to bring it back each year to display.
Bob had something to say about race day for passes………
There was a motion to kick Shawn out of our group for non communication and the motion carried so Shawn is no longer a Busch brother. He may choose to be honorary some day but that would be his choice to petition in if desired.
There was a motion to kick Tex out but the discussion did not get very far and it died before a motion to vote could be supported.
It was decided that everyone would maintain their current positions/titles with a couple exceptions. Someone insisted Steve now also carry the Chairman of the Board title (or just Chairman) which he proudly accepted since others have been calling him that for a few years anyway. The President office is only for 2 yrs so Paul M nominated James for President and after overcoming a short period of denial to be honored with such a nomination he accepted the nomination and the motion quickly carried and James is the new President of the BB.
There were many social drinks called and Paul motioned to close the meeting and Craig was 2nd and I have no idea what time it was? . (A thank you goes out to Paul M for getting the trophies with custom designs.) (A thank you goes out to Chris/James for getting the Case Club Plaque Insert) (A thank you goes out to Mike for donating the nice chairs and to Paul for getting them)
As mentioned above it was discussed that everyone shall keep their current titles/position with a couple small exceptions.
James = President and Grillmaster Mike = Past President and advisor Chris = Presidential Advisor and Case Club Plaque administrator Steve =Chairman of the Board and VP and Secretary Jon = Historian and Websites Administrator Paul = VP and Chief of Consumption/BB Statistics and VP of Tractor Procurement Operations Rich = BM administrator and BBAM festivities director Tony = VP of Publicity and Recruitment, Mentor to Paul H Dustin = Security Tex = Bonfire Gas Administrator and Chief of Fire Operations.
After the Full Member Meeting almost everyone headed outside to do whatever needed to be done including many rounds of social drinks, grabbing some food, riding or driving the Tractor, riding the quad, or riding the motorcycle. James stepped up again this year and brought out some great food for the grill and served very well as the Grillmaster. It was reported by many that the food off the grill was awesome and they look forward to him serving in that capacity in the future. (A big thank you goes out to James for providing the food and the grilling duties.)
The gassing of the annual bonfire was back on schedule this year with Rich providing the gassing duties and I believe Paul M was the lucky dog that ignited it with the Roman candle. It was a great fire with plenty of wood that continued it highly through the night.
Again this year the tractor rides throughout the night were definitely a highlight and lasted well into the evening. Thanks to Paul for procuring yet another tractor and we now still have two tractors: a 1991 suburban and the 1988 Chevy blazer continues to run strong. Driving an old blazer over the fields and thru the woods over the trees is something that should be on every one’s bucket list. The new tractor was probably even more fun this year as it enabled more people to ride and it made it through the night and Paul was able to drive it home the next day. The old tractor continues to show more signs cancer eating thru the floor boards and sinking in the back down below the bumper even more this year. It is amazing the OLD Tractor lasted all through the meeting, but it did….barely.
The motorcycles (Yamaha TTR 125 and a Honda CRF 230) and quad were once again ridden much more this year which was awesome and no major injuries reported. Just a scrape or two from James since Hoss was not in attendance. It was great to see James riding the motorcycle more this year and getting better as the evening progressed. Steve reports that he really enjoyed playing cat and mouse after dark on the motorcycle and Tony and Rich on the quad. It is great how everyone got faster as the day went on and even as the sun went down.
There were no major injuries, no major damage, and no police presence. I believe a good time was had by all. A few others mentioned that the BBAM this year went very fast and I agree.
Below are my report outs from the 22nd Annual BBAM.
BBAM Performance Statistics
While another year has passed, the Busch Mountains continues to live on stronger than ever. With attendance at levels below prior years, consumption per Brother was strong at 18.5 cans, and was the 3rd highest ever (or at least since we have kept records). First to both 12 and 24 was Paul Hutchins. Overall Busch Beer Drinking Champion was Mike with 28, his 2nd year in a row. Paul M came in a close 2nd at 26 cans on the wall and Paul Hutchins with 25. This was Hutch's 3rd case club in his 3rd BBAM. Excellent performance continued with Rich at 20, James H at 19, Steve at 18 and Tony and Jon W at 17 apiece. Overall consumption was 185 cans.
The Euchre Tourney winner was Jon Williams and Bob Sherwood won the Pick Your Pony.
I also would like to report no tractor fires and no puking this year.
Busch Fund
While no donations were made directly to the Busch Fund, many Brothers were generous enough to provide some $ to the Busch House Fund which Rich is managing. I would like to take this opportunity to announce our new fundraising tool which Brother Steve set up. It is a website to raise money for the Busch Fund via magazine sales. While being able to read is not a requirement of the Busch Brothers, I am pretty sure you can all do it. 40% of the cost of the magazine comes directly back to the Busch fund.
Our goal is to raise $500. That combined with existing funds should allow for a future tractor purchase, or other cool stuff.

There are many good choices. Unfortunately, Steve works for a family friendly company, so you will not likely find your normal favorite magazines. But there could be one for you or your family. Even if you have an existing subscription, you can simply check renew.
